Greg Bear

The American author, Greg Bear, is best known for his Science Fiction writing, but has also written fantasy and horror novels.

Bear was born in San Diego, California and completed his B.A. at a local university. He submitted his first story for publication in 1967 and has published over 40 novels.

Bear is considered by some to be an author of Hard Science Fiction due to his rigorous attention to scientific details. In his writing, Bear often answers major questions in science with fictional solutions and speculation that are not only believable but have gotten praise in the scientific journal, Nature. He has tackled the themes of galactic conflict, artificial universes, consciousness, and accelerated evolution with such scientific accuracy that it is surprising that he did not pursue a B.S. in college. It is believed that Bear may have been the first to write about nanotechnology in Science Fiction.

Bear has won multiple Hugo and Nebula awards in addition to other honors for his writing. Bear certainly knew how to put the science in Science Fiction earning him his spot on the Cream of the Crop list.
